Biography of youth orchestra Langenargen
 and of Gerd Lanz, conductor

  Youth orchestra Langenargen

The youth orchestra of the music school Langenargen was founded 30 years ago.
At the moment, there are over 60 girls and boys making music in the orchestra. They
are aged 10 to 19 years.

The orchestra meets twice a week to practice in smaller groups or all together. The members have to do about 30 concerts
and several gigs a year. There is a trip to a foreign country once a year. The orchestra was in the following countries:
Spain, France, Belgium, Poland, Croatia, Hungary, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

The girls and boys always got one of the best prizes at contests of bands or other music competitions.
The saxophone quartet did the qualification for the overall German competition “Jugend musiziert”.

All the members of the orchestra are really looking forward to Greece!

Gerd Lanz, conductor of the orchestra

Gerd Lanz (*1953) directs the orchestra since 1983. He attended the state university for music in Düsseldorf and Cologne.
Mr. Lanz is university laureate; he was a free employee of the “West German Radio Station Orchestra” for long years
and he also was soloist in several orchestras. Mr. Lanz was a military musician at the “Heeresmusikkorp 10” in Ulm for 8 years.
Since October 1983 he is the director of the school of music in Langenargen at the Lake of Constance. His students are regularly laureates
in the competition “Jugend musiziert”.

August 7th - 22th 2005 , 13th year!

Speaking Classic Greek
and reading profound writings

Relaxing in Greece and - at the same time - improving one's language knowledge-
doesn't that sound interesting?

There is only one place where this opportunity is offered. High School and University Students
and adults from different countries meet in a large, shady garden near the sea; together they discover that they can
uphold conversation, read and talk about entertaining
and intellectual texts, all in the language Plato spoke.
At the same time the vacation facility Hellenikon Idyllion also accommodates musicians
and people interested in culture and arts;
lectures and concerts are offered to the guests on several evenings.

It is possible to visit an old antique theatre and watch the performance of a play there.
The Hellenikon Idyllion is located at the northern coast of the Peloponnesian close to Aigio,
a traditional town drawing the attention mostly to Greek guests.
The owner is supporting the seminar in Classic Greek by offering free accommodation
(shared rooms) for the participants if available.
On request he also arranges accommodation in single or double rooms.

DITHYRAMBOS - The Greek Theatre from Vienna/ Neustadt
as a guest in Hellenikon Idyllion

Since 2001 there is a Greek choir in Vienna/ Neustadt (50km, south of Vienna) , which consists of graduates,
teachers and pupils of the humanistic state high school of Vienna. The choir works together with well-known
actors, musicians (Ensemble LOGOS), dancers, directors and choreographs.

Within the first 3 years of their work, the choir dedicated itself to a trilogy of the ancient times:

in May 2003 the music-theatre SOKRATES was being realised (lyrics and music by Prof. Werner Schulze).

In June 2004 it was followed by the dance-music-speech ANCHIBASIE (the idea and the concept for the lyrics

by Prof. Werner Schulze, interior design and choreography by Sebastian Prantl, Dance Atelier Vienna)

In September 2005 OIDIPUS CROSSOVER (lyrics based on Sophokles, German version of lyrics by
Winfrid Koppensteiner, shadow play with traditional Indonesian -Javanese- embodiment.
 Gamelan concept by Werner Schulze.
All performances will take place in the former church of St. Peter on the Sperr, which is dated in the 13th century.
The church is used as an exhibitionnal church during the summer months, but for the week, where the activities
around DITHYRAMBOS are taking place, it is transformed into a sounding room.

Sunday, 21st of August, 10.30 am
Workshop in the Garden of Hellenikon Idyllion

Workshop lecture of Werner Schulze

"Hidden harmony is more powerful than obvious harmony."
Heraklit's fragments and Platons Timaios.
ΑΡΜΟΝΙΗ ΑΦΑΝΗΣ ΦΑΝΕΡΗΣ ΚΡΕΙΤΤΩΝ

For the uniform birth of cosmology, mathematics and musical theory.

Philosophical- mathematical visions, made audible on the polychord.
(Knowledge in Greek is an advantage, but not neccessary)

Werner Schulze in the Hellenikon Idyllion. More information about Prof. Werner Schulze:
 www.werner-schulze.at

Theatre Performance:  Monday, 22 August 2005, 9:00 p.m.

A production of the Hellenikon Idyllion in its own garden, in connection with
a film which is showed for the versy first time outside of Austria (75 minutes).
Fragments of Heraklit (from 550 - 480 BBC) and Empedokles ( from 483 - 423 BBC)
in music, space and emotion and in dance theatrical design.
5 members of the Greek choir DITHYRAMBOS and 2 musicians of the ensemble
LOGOS step out of the film, play in the garden, awake the hidden.
SO this time, it is not like usually:

Hellenikon Idyllion h a s  a stage, but Hellenikon Idyllion i s  a stage!

αγχιβασίη
  ANCHIBASÍE

Heraklit used the word anchibasie in the fragment 122. That means, also in the
interpretation of Martin Heidegger, 'proximity-step' or 'approach'. The meaning of
this word is the basic idea of a cross-border artistical discussion and debate.

Myth and logos are still undivided,

metaphysics is at the fingertips of poetry,
figures of speech flow into the music of movement

So when in Rome – Greece , do as the locals do.

Hellenikon Idyllion is set amongst orange and fig trees all of which are there for the picking,
with grape vines climbing the pergolas. The beach is just 10 metres from the front gate,

DRESS REHEARSAL at the 7 September 2005 from 10:00 till 12:00 a.m. in the orchard of the Hellenikon Idyllion.  Friends of the Hellenikon Idyllion and anyone who loves classical music is more than welcome to join us.  We would like you to notify us if you are attending the dress rehearsal. (Phone number as above!)

Entry in our Guestbook from the "Bavarian Classics" Symphony Orchestra:

Dear Andreas,

After we made it back safely, I am now taking the time to thank you and your whole team in the name of the ensemble and our chief conductor Hans Walter Kämpfel for your brilliant organisation of the 4 concerts in Greece (in the Theatre of Corinth, the Temple of Apollo in Argos, the Latin Theatre in Patra and the American College in Athens) and of course for the beautiful days we spend at the Hellenikon Idyllion.

The serenade by Mozart, in which the marvelous pianist Marios Kazas was instrumental in accompanying us, gave us tempestuous applause.  In the centre of the serenade was the premiere of the ode by Sappho to Aphrodite for coloratura soprano and clarinet solo, all wrapped up in music.  The piece was composed by Spiros Mazis specially for the Bavarian Classics and meant a great challenge and an enrichment for all of us.  Even though it rained in Argos when we were about to start playing, we kept up our high spirits.  Nevertheless the best performance without doubt, resulting out of a perfect organisation by the event organiser, was the one in Athens, in the concert hall of the American College - again, we would like to thank them for their perfect guest support.  Another height of our concert tour was the opportunity to perform in the Ancient Theatre in Patra, which one has to experience once in a lifetime.

Last but not least we would like to thank your staff and your trainees, who helped us with the organisation, during the performances and with the transportation of our instruments as well as with technical details.  The 10 trainees who accompanied us were very helpful and applicable in many fields.  Unfortunately we couldn't invite all trainees.

With best wishes and kind regards

Elfriede Artinger

Speaking Classic Greek
and reading profound writings

Relaxing in Greece and - at the same time - improving one's language knowledge-
doesn't that sound interesting?

There is only one place where this opportunity is offered. High School and University Students
and adults from different countries meet in a large, shady garden near the sea; together they discover that they can
uphold conversation, read and talk about entertaining
and intellectual texts, all in the language Plato spoke.
At the same time the vacation facility Hellenikon Idyllion also accommodates musicians
and people interested in culture and arts;
lectures and concerts are offered to the guests on several evenings.

                26. August
