First art seminar on the peloponnesian peninsula

art instructor:
Frederick D. Bunsen
participation:
please contact the artist: bunsen@bunsen.org, www.bunsen.org. A serious occupation with art is prerequisit.
The course will take place as soon as 10 participants are interested.
description:
Drawing is a process where an artist is momentarily "blinded" as to how his lines and surfaces might make sense from an outside perspective, yet almost simultaneously leave his creative position to eccentrically realize and guide that same activity from the outside. That distinction of being simultaneously inside and outside the system, in turn, guides and perpetuates the autopoiesis of the drawing. By submerging myself once again in the act of drawing, I maintain the conditions under which the autopoiesis of drawing I maintain the conditions under which the autopoiesis of drawing was at first enabled.
The course is built on this idea while occupated with the usual practice of drawing.
the artist:
Bunsen studied art history and philosophy at the university of Stuttgart, and fine arts at the State Art Academy in Stuttgart, Germany;
publications in English and German together with the system theoretic, Niklas Luhmann;

Fourth Competition in Attic Greek

Even in our days there are people who are learning Plato´s language in order to understand better the classical works of the ancient Greeks, works concerning philosophy or tragedy or rhetoric. However, the mere knowledge of the language will not be enough for the advanced student. He will be intent on using the language in an active way. Yet conversing merely about commonplaces in attic Greek is rather beneath the dignity of such a language. One should deal with more sophisticated subjects in order to profit from a language so rich in nuances.

Therefore the Hellenikon Idyllion invites all those who have a good command of attic Greek to compose texts in this language about sophisticated subjects of their own choice: Biographies, chapters of glory, dialogues, treatises, poems or any other texts are likewise acceptable.

Prizes are awarded for the best texts sent to the Hellenikon Idyllion:

1. All participants get a document. 2. The document will point out the merits of the writing. 3. Better texts will be published by internet or by philological papers. 4. For the best textes are prepared suitable gifts.

Competition Regulations:

Send your text to the Hellenikon Idyllion, GR-25100 Selianitika/Egion, where it must arrive by the 1st of August 2002 at the latest.

Write your text on a computer with a maximum of 100 lines on two pages.

Please inform us about your present (professional or similar) activities, and apart from that in what way and for how long a time you have learned ancient Greek

If a school class has composed a text collectively, the person should be named who deserves the prize more than all the others. In case the class should plan a study trip to Greece, it will be entitled to a considerably reduced price for the stay at the Hellenikon Idyllion.

The Hellenikon Idyllion appoints a jury, the judges´ decision being final.

The Hellenikon Idyllion will publish the names of the prize-winners along with the most deserving texts in its journal THE CLASSICAL LANGUAGE OF THE GREEKS.

Texts sent in deliberately outside the rules of the competition will also be welcome. Authors of other suitable texts (outside the competition) will be offered a stay free of charge for two or more days at the Hellenikon Idyllion.

The Hellenikon Idyllion invites all lovers of classical Greek from all countries to take part in this competition in honour of the course in Attic Greek which will take place from the 12. - 26. of August 2002 for the ninth year running.

The Hellenikon Idyllion is a place of hospitality, where music and culture are fostered in a shady garden on the northern coast of the Peloponnesus, close to the sea.
